LIVE TUMOR BANKING
Live tumor banking is the collection, growth and storage of your patient’s living tumor tissue.
Tumors are typically stored in wax or as flash frozen samples; processes that kill the tumor cells and limit future testing options. Live tumor banking cryopreserves and stores the living tumor tissue AND utilizes a new process called “tumor grafting” to grow living tumor for specialized testing and large scale banking. This “Personalized Tumorgraft” process enables drug evaluation testing that may provide valuable data to help guide your treatment decisions.

What types of tumor preservation does Champions perform?
If adequate tissue is available, Champions will prepare and store the following:
- Personalized Tumorgraft: fragments of the client’s tumor are surgically implanted directly in immune deficient mice. As these fragments grow to approximately 1 cm in diameter, they are surgically removed, cut into small fragments and re-implanted into additional mice until enough tissue is available for large scale cryopreservation storage and drug testing.
- Cryropreservation: fragments of the client’s tumor are slowly frozen in cryopreservation media and stored in liquid nitrogen. This process is designed to keep the tumor cells alive such that the sample can be thawed, implanted in immune deficient mice and grown at a later date.
